Govt. of India set up Farm Machinery Testing Centre under the Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, College of Agricultural Engineering, and this is located within the
University of Agricultural Science, Bangalore for testing the Farm Machineries (both Land Development Equipment and Plant and Sowing Equipments)
in the year 2011-2012.
Farm Machinery Testing Centre at UAS, acts as an important link between manufacturers and users of Agricultural machines as well as other agencies responsible for the introduction
and popularization of farm equipments in Southern India. This Farm Machinery Testing Centre offers both Commercial and Confidential tests at our Institute.
Commercial tests are aimed to verify the declarations / claims of the manufacturer/ applicant for performance characteristics of machines that are in or ready for commercial production.
Confidential tests are carried out for providing confidential information on the performance of machines, whether ready for commercial production or not or to provide any special data that may be required by the manufacturer / applicant.
Farm Machinery Industry
As far as the farm equipment industry is concerned, the major component of manufacturing community is in the small
scale sector which can not afford to have their own Research & Development facilities. Therefore, the quality of such products is very difficult
to achieve.
Today variety of machines can be seen being used in Indian agriculture, but it is not always true that every machine being used have functional
and endurance reliabilities.
The wide variation of soil and agro-climatic conditions, agronomical practices and cropping patterns may make one machine useful
in one region but not suitable at other regions.
Farm Machinery Testing
Thus, the field of agricultural machinery testing is most important and presents greater challenge
in achieving quality and standardization.
In the light of urgent need for testing of agricultural machinery, the Government of India has set up Farm Machinery Training & Testing
Institutes in order to check performance of agricultural machines before taking decision to import or
manufacture and introduce in Indian agriculture.
Govt. Approved Test Agency
Testing by an impartial agency is the most reliable criteria in judging performance of agricultural machines
through laboratory tests as well as tests under actual field conditions.
Thus by carrying out tests and performance evaluation of agricultural machines, the institute is providing support for the appropriate
selection and utilization of agricultural machines when it is introduced to the farm and at the same time supports the industry for
manufacturing proper farm machinery.
Objectives
To conduct testing of agricultural machinery except tractors,
power
tillers as per the BIS codes.
To provide commercial test reports to the farm machinery manufacturers that would facilitate further improvement in agricultural machinery and also help farmers and Govt. agencies to select quality machines for subsidy purpose.
The Testing Report would help the manufacturer, farmer and Financing agencies in the following contexts.
For the Manufacturer
To evaluate their product both for developmental and production models.
To get the advice of the testing institution based on performance reports and thus continuously improve upon their products.
To get the authentic data on the performance of similar machines of other manufacturers to further improve their product.
To improve technical literature like service manual, performance data sheets etc.
To provide independent evidence to support their claims for their machine performance.
For the Users/Farmer
To get guidelines for taking decision on the type of machine to be used for a certain operation.
To select particular machine according to individual requirement based on the quality products where a choice of different brands exists.
To keep them up-to-date by subscribing to test reports.
